Cannes Awards
It’s been a few weeks since the Cannes Awards took place, and they were something I’ve been looking forward to all year. There’s just something that’s very exciting about seeing the brightest and best ads placed next to one another. Of course, the ads in the competition are typically ones you’ve never seen on TV before, but through social media, blogs, and YouTube, you can always get a glimpse of them beforehand.
One ad that I am very happy won an award is the ever talked about Chrysler 200 ad “Born of Fire” that was first aired during the 2011 Super Bowl. Maybe it’s because I live in Detroit, and maybe it’s because I drive past the Chrysler building every day, but there’s just something emotionally stirring about the ad. I’m a sucker for “tug at your heart strings” kinds of ads, and this is one of them. (Apple produces a lot of these ads- I really like advertisements that advertise a product, but get you through emotional connections. A lot of companies miss this.) The ad took home five awards from the competition Best Direction, Best Use of Music, Best Script,Best Automotive Commercial, and a bronze award for Best Editing. The ad was developed with the help of Wieden+Kennedy, an agency in Oregon.
Congratulations to everyone who helped to make this ad a success! It certainly feels great here in Detroit.
